Fadnavis, while speaking to The Goan, stated that Sawant has evolved over time as a strong leader making him the most acceptable chief ministerial candidate after elections. When questioned about speculation on the party high command contemplating a leadership change, he said, there is no basis for such a move. Meanwhile, Fadnavis played down the ongoing fiery exchanges between Sawant and ‘ALL IS WELL’ Fadnavis played down the ongoing fiery exchanges between Sawant and MGP senior leader Sudin Dhavalikar and said BJP’s doors are open for talks on alliance He said Sudin personally met him and held discussions on an array of topics ranging from alliance to other political issues ON TMC’s ENTRY Fadnavis said that the ground situation is very favourable to BJP since the Opposition parties will only be splitting individual votes MGP senior leader Sudin Dhavalikar and said BJP’s doors are open for an alliance. “We have not slammed the door on MGP, and if the party is willing we can take the alliance talks forward,” Fadnavis told The Goan, adding that his instincts tell him that Sudin would do a “rethink” on forging a pre-poll electoral alliance. Asked on how he places BJP in the current political churn with TMC throwing itself into the fray, Fadnavis stated that the ground situation is very favourable to them since the Opposition parties will only be splitting individual votes. The party’s emissary to Goa appeared unruffled over resentment within sections of the party and leaders sometimes raising voices against the party line. “Troubleshooting exercise has been undertaken, and there is complete clarity now,” was his retort. “As long as there is one line of command, and not too many leaders speaking out of turn,” the situation would be manageable and the party would not face any hurdles. BJP’s poll strategy THE GOAN I NETWORK PANAJI The scheduled arrival of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday amidst the frenzied backhand activity as Goa enters the pre-poll phase is expected to tighten the nuts and bolts of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) election armour even as speculation is rife over alliance talks with MGP’s Sudin Dhavlikar. Shah is coming on an official visit -- to lay the foundation stone for a forensic college -- but it is a given that he will hold deliberations with the BJP core committee and party MLAs to fine-tune the strategy for the 2022 assembly elections. Incidentally, former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, who was a few weeks ago appointed the BJP’s election in-charge for Goa, also arrived in the State on Wednesday. So has the saffron party’s Goa desk in-charge, C T Ravi and the duo have held hectic parleys to prepare the pitch for Shah’s meetings with various party leaders and karyakartas. “The union home minister Amit Shah is attending a government function in Goa. G He has now extended invitations to the children from these homes to join him for food at the governor’s palace. That’s not all. The governor said, “Let the Raj Bhavan be the coordinating centre for the people of Goa from all walks of life, irrespective of party affiliations, whether BJP, Congress or other parties.” A day when he hopped from one orphanage to another and an oldage centre in South Goa on Wednesday, the governor said he is seriously thinking of promoting the literary and artistic talent of children housed in the orphanages and children’s homes. “The talent of these children needs to be given wings and I have told the orphanages to work in this direction,” he added. The Governor visited the Missionaries of Charity, Fatorpa, Lar de Santa Terezinha, Pajifond-Margao and Matruchhaya Balika Kalyan Ashram-Margao. “With my experience as a public worker and as a governor, I want cooperation from people from all walks of life, be they Hindus, Muslims or Christians or belonging to any political party,” he said after visiting the South Goa district hospital. To a question whether he has broached talks over alliance with MGP leader, Sudhin Dhavalikar, he said no such discussions have taken place. “When we have not met where is the question of holding talks on alliance,” he snapped. State BJP President, Sadanand Tanavade informed that the union home minister will preside over a karyakartas’ sammelan at the Community Hall in Taleigao and later hold discussions with BJP’s core committee and MLAs on election preparedness. “I cannot make any statement on alliance. Our central observers and the parliamentary board will decide,” Tanavade maintained. Shah is expected to iron out the wrinkles and patch up the cracks in the ruling party’s camp.
