PANAJI The Directorate of Health Services will begin administering precautionary third dose of Covid vaccination from Monday to healthcare and frontline workers and persons aged above 60 years with co-morbidities. State Immunization Officer Dr Rajendra Borkar informed that Goa the authorities are working on a projection of around 28,000 people, who are eligible for the precautionary dose in Goa. The vaccination of healthcare workers will be undertaken at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim and at all health centres across the State. While there needs to be a gap of nine months between the second dose of Covid vaccination and the precautionary dose, the eligible persons are not required to register in advance or carry any medical certificate as proof of co-morbid conditions. Till today, these political parties told us that >Continued on P5 ‘Deltacron’ found in Cyprus AGENCIES NICOSIA A new coronavirus variant Deltacron has emerged in Cyprus which has a similar genetic background to the Delta variant, as well as some of the mutations from Omicron, and experts say that it is not something to be worried about at the moment, a media report said. In total, 10 of the mutations from Omicron were found in the 25 samples taken in Cyprus. 11 of the samples came from people who were hospitalized due to the virus, while 14 came from the general population, reported Jerusalem The new variant has a similar genetic background to the Delta variant, as well as some of the mutations from Omicron Post citing Cyprus Mail. Dr Leondios Kostrikis, the head of the laboratory of biotechnology and molecular virology at the University of Cyprus, said that the frequency of the mutation among hospitalized patients was higher and could point to a correlation between the new variant and hospitalizations. Kostrikis also emphasized that the variant has a simi- lar genetic background to the Delta variant, as well as some of the mutations from Omicron.
