Till noon, the Goa police appeared clueless as the deceased had no connection with the Maharashtra-registered vehicle. The driver of the vehicle told the police he had come from Mumbai to deliver goods in Margao. That the body of the accused was in a nude state only made the investigating agency to probe the murder in various angles. CCTV footage obtained by the police from a jewellery and another shop only showed the deceased emerging on the road, sitting on the road before entering the parked Maharashtra-registered vehicle at around 5.30 am on Saturday. By 2 pm, the Goa police achieved a breakthrough after CCTV footage of an establishment in the Calconda Corpse found in Taleigao field; body washed ashore in Siolim Police officials along with a sniffer dog near the vehicle where the body of the deceased was found. The body of a man said to be in his thirties was found lying in a field and although there is no conclusive evidence, the police suspect he must have accidentally fallen into the flooded field and drowned. In Siolim, the body of a 21-year-old youth was found on Udo beach on Saturday morning. According to police, preliminary reports point out that the deceased, who is a native of Bihar, may have drowned. >> See pg 3 He said during the course of investigation technical surveillance was mounted as well as local intelligence was deployed. Vital clues were collected on the basis of CCTV footages in Khareband area located the place of incident and established the identity of the deceased to be of one Amit Kirketti aged between 35-40 and a native of Jharkhand. The probe revealed that there was a brawl between the accused namely Prashant and the victim namely Amit Kirketti after consuming liquor before the accused person assaulted the deceased with a sharp weapon. Accused person is taken into custody and is being interrogated further. THE GOAN I NETWORK PANAJI Noted Konkani tiatr actor and director and Vice-President of Tiatr Academy of Goa, Mario Menezes suffered a massive heart attack and breathed his last at Chiplun in Maharashtra while on his way to a scheduled tiatr performance in Mumbai on Saturday. Mario Menezes was travelling as a member of Menino de Bandar’s troupe for his show ‘Tandllanchem Kestaum’ as part of the 150th Birth anniversary celebrations of Pai Tiatrist Joao Agostinho Fernandes. The performance was scheduled at St Joseph’s Church Hall Mira Road Mumbai on Saturday. While majority of the tiatr group members were proceeding to Mumbai by bus, Mario Menezes was travelling by train along with another 6 tiatr artistes. Mario, popularly known as ‘tragedy king’ of Konkani stage, had no known illness. He was his usual self-joking and laughing the entire journey, members of the troupe that accompanied him said. “The travelling artistes had their dinner and were relaxing when after crossing Ratnagiri Mario suddenly began complaining of severe headache. The pain continued and in no time his body turned pale. Authorities were alerted and as the train reached Chiplun an ambulance was pressed into service and Mario was carried to a private hospital where he was declared ‘brought dead,” disclosed his colleagues on the train. A massive heart attack is believed to be the cause of his death. Mario leaves behind his wife Epiphania Menezes and tiatrist daughters Rioma and Riosha Menezes.
