In all, 1,464 candidates will be declared elected as panchas in the 186 panchayats that went to the polls on Wednesday. Sixty-four candidates have already been declared elected unopposed. The counting will begin simultaneously at 8 am and will continue till the entire exercise is completed. For the moment, the centres housing the ballot boxes are heavily guarded with police personnel keeping a strict watch at the centres. Sources informed that the counting of each panchayat will be taken up as per the order that they appear. Meanwhile, the counting for all 18 panchayats of Tiswadi taluka will be taken up at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, Bambolim with the panchayats divided into two groups of 9 each. MAPUSA Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said that the Aguada museum set up in the renovated Fort Aguada will be thrown open for public viewing from September 1. Sawant also said that school students will be allowed free entry into the museum for the entire year on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Indian Independence. “A short film on the history of the Aguada fort is ready. The Aguada jail museum will be thrown open for public viewing from September 1 onwards. While tourists will be charged an entry fee, school students will be allowed entry free of cost for the entire year,” Sawant said. Rane said these decisions were among several taken at the TCP Board meeting he chaired on Thursday. Another major decision taken at the Board meeting was to open the Outline Development Plans (ODPs) of the Panaji and Mapusa planning area. Rane said, directions will be issued to the North Goa Planning and Development Authority (NGPDA), to keep the ODPs open for a maximum of two months.
