Taking to Twitter, Naik who is junior minister in the Shipping and Waterways ministry besides ports and tourism, said in a series of tweets in Hindi that the 32-kilometer distance between Panaji and Vasco which approximately takes 45 minutes will then be possible in 20 minutes. Naik’s tweet drew the attention of Prime Minister, Narendra  Modi, and quote-tweeted the tweet-thread to express happiness over the national waterways-68 between Panaji to Vasco providing relief to people. The latter however clarified that a ferry service will be launched very soon after a floating jetty which is already sanctioned by the ministry is set up. “The tweets are in the context of a floating jetty to be set up soon which is already sanctioned by the Shipping and Waterways ministry,” Naik said when questioned about his tweet. He also said that a ferry service will also be made operational which will enable people to not only commute but also take their vehicles across. The minister said, the floating jetty on the Dona Paula side will be executed by the Shipping and Waterways ministry while on the Vasco side the jetty arrangements will be made by the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA). The waterway between Dona Paula and Vasco was operational several decades ago in the 1980s with a launch service availed by office-goers and regular commuters between the two cities. The service was abruptly stopped in the late 1980s. In the fire at the reserve forest at Satre-Sattari, several acres of cashew plantations were destroyed with the loss running into several lakhs of rupees. Locals said efforts were on to bring the fire under control which started at the Dipaji Rane Mountain in Satre. Satre is a village on the border between Goa and Karnataka in Nagargaon Panchayat area and is completely surrounded by forest. Villagers claimed that over 15 acres of cashew nut plantation belonging to 15 persons had been completely burnt. One person was arrested while the 9 minors were produced before child welfare committee (CWC) along with family members who gave bond for their good behaviour. Police also recovered two knuckle dusters. The incident happened late Saturday night at Captain Cabin Shack in Baga, Calangute. According to complainant Ajay Sethi, the accused ganged up and assaulted him and his friends over issue of food order.  Police informed that the accused assaulted the complainant and fled from the spot. Acting swiftly, Calangute Police traced the accused and brought them to the Police Station. The accused Raj Gujrati, resident of Nagao was arrested and the 9 minors were produced before CWC, Apna Ghar, Merces and released on a bond of Rs 10,000 each. A team of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) inspected some of the stadiums on Sunday and also held deliberations with Sports Minister Govind Gaude and other officials of the Sports ministry. Gaude said, most of the infrastructure is ready but refurbishment as per requirements of the each of the discipline will have to be done.
