Reliable information accessed by The Goan reveals that several personnel including middle-ranking personnel, who were among over 1,000 transferred in the past year, have gone a step further – completing their paperwork suggesting they have reported to their new postings while continuing to remain at their existing place. The situation has raised serious concerns about the discipline within the police force. One constable, Attar, has reportedly remained at Agassaim PS for around 12 years, ignoring transfers to Calangute and Verna. Meanwhile, others including Karapurkar and Shetye have rotated exclusively within units of the Goa Reserve Police for nearly 15 years, shifting between A Coy to E Coy without ever leaving the GRP system. Transfers have been ignored across other units including the Traffic Cell, Local Intelligence Bureau and the Crime Branch, etc. In some cases, officials have been ‘transferred’ from one place to another but within the same building including the North and South SP offices. Even promotions from constable to assistant sub-inspector have been at the same place of posting for several years. Traffic personnel named Suraj, Prabhakar, Rupesh and Pratap and some others were moved to various posts in Porvorim, Calangute and Vasco but continue working in Panaji and other existing traffic units. Narayan Pissurlenkar Boat catches fire in Mandovi THE GOAN I NETWORK PANAJI/PORVORIM A passenger boat, MV K-Cat, caught fire early Saturday at the Britona Jetty in River Mandovi. The incident occurred around 5:15 am but swift action by fire personnel and officials from the Captain of Ports prevented what could have been a major disaster. The boat, equipped with air conditioning and other amen- ities, fortunately did not have any passengers or crew on board. Reports indicate the fire was caused by short circuit. Strong winds fanned the flames, which led the fire to rapidly engulf the vessel. Porvorim Fire Station Officer Sandeep Naik said they received a call at about 5.15 am. A fire brigade rushed to the site but by then the rope of the cruise boat got burnt and the boat started drifting towards Panaji. “We then summoned the services of a tug vessel from the Captain of Ports. The tug towed the passenger boat to the Panaji jetty where the fire was doused,” said Naik. The operation lasted more than an hour even as personnel were kept on standby to prevent any rekindling. Damage assessment and loss estimates will be submitted to the concerned departments. PANAJI The Appeals Committee of AIFF on Saturday upheld the protests lodged by I-League clubs Churchill Bros, Namdhari and Real Kashmir against Inter Kashi for fielding an ineligible foreign player, Mario Barco, in their I-League 2024-25 championship, thereby implying that Churchill Brothers FC, with 42 points are the undisputed champions. Following the order of the AIFF Appeals Committee, Churchill Bros has been awarded 2 additional points, Namdhari has secured 3 additional points and Kashmir has secured a superior match result. Inter Kashi loses 4 points for now, besides altering the goal difference. Consequently, Inter Kashi's appeal in the Namdhari dispute in CAS will not change the championship’s fate. Inter Kashi to move CAS again NEW DELHI: I-League club Inter Kashi is set to knock on the doors of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for a second time after the All India Football Federation upheld the appeal of Namdhari FC, Real Kashmir and Churchill Brothers against the Varanasi-based club over re-registration of Mario Barco. “Inter Kashi will now appeal the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport. While it is unfortunate that Inter Kashi has to approach CAS yet again for a truly free and fair hearing of the matter, it seems to be the new reality of Indian football,” Inter Kashi said in statement and posted it on X. The AIFF committee headed by Justice (retd) Rajesh Tandon and A K Tripathi, District Judge and Priyanka Mishra, lawyer and member, unanimously ruled that the AIFF Competition Committee's decision to reject Inter Kashi's request to re-register Mario Barco, who had opted out due to injury, was correct. AIFF League Committee had presented a letter dated February 15, 2025 overruling the Competition Committee's decision. As the letter had not been passed through proper process, the panel has decided it to be non est and rejected the League Committee's decision. The AIFF has been directed to ensure the natural consequences of this order follow. It implies that Churchill Brothers FC, with 42 points are the undisputed champions. CDS admits to loss of aircraft Crumbling infra leaves Chapora jetty in peril JETTY OR JUNKYARD? during ‘Operation Sindoor’ THE GOAN I NETWORK DISMISSES PAKISTAN CLAIM OF DOWNING 6 JETS PTI SINGAPORE India rectified tactics and hit deep inside Pakistani territory after suffering losses of aircraft in the recent military clashes with Pakistan, Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan said on Saturday while dismissing as “absolutely incorrect” Islamabad's claim of downing six Indian jets. Gen Chauhan, in an interview to Bloomberg TV, said India flew all its jets and carried out high-precision strikes to hit back at Pakistan after ascertaining the reasons for the initial losses. The Chief of Defence Staff declined to specify the losses in terms of numbers but pointed out the fact that the Indian military struck deep inside Pakistani territory that, New Delhi said, forced Islamabad to plead to stop the hostilities. The comments by the top military officer are the Indian military's first clear acknowledgement of losses in the fourday military clashes with the neighbouring country. “I think what is important is not the jet being downed but why they were being downed,” Gen Chauhan, currently in Singapore, said. Gen Chauhan was asked whether India lost combat jets during the four-day military clashes with Pakistan. “So the good part is that we were able to understand the tactical mistakes which we made, remedy it, rectify it and then implement it again after two days and flew all our jets again targeting at long range,” he said. PANAJI broken, rusted roof and human waste in the water—this is the condition of the Chapora fishing jetty, which authorities have allegedly neglected as its infrastructure continues to deteriorate. Despite repeated complaints and supporting evidence submitted to both the Fisheries Department and the District Collector, the condition of the jetty has remained unchanged. Fishermen and residents have warned that the collapsing auction shed at the site poses serious risk to locals and tourists who frequent the area. Small to large chunks of rusted roof fall daily Other infrastructure, ammenities continues to deteriorate Dilapidated auction A “Chapora jetty lies on the windward side and faces powerful gusts. Small to large chunks of rusted roofing fall daily. It’s an accident waiting to happen,” one complaint to the department reads. The worsening state of the jetty is also reportedly driving away fishing trawlers. From 34 vessels operating last year – numbers which dwindled over the years, only 28 remain at present carrying 54 crew members. “Though smaller than Malim jetty, daily fish auctions and regular docking of vessels still happen at the jetty. Despite this, the basic amenities and improved infrastructure is massively lacking,” the source said adding “There are no toilets. The crew relieve them- selves in the river. Tourists also flock here and they ask us where they can go. We point to Chapora Fort because that’s become an open defecation site now. Even nearby religious places are being affected.” Fisheries Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar has already admitted that most jetties including Malim, Vasco and Chapora do not have the facilities. shed poses risk to locals, tourists & children Trawler operations dwindle Toilets missing, trawler crew uses the river Speaking to The Goan, he assured improvements during the two-month fishing ban period including repairs and upgradation of jetties. “The tenders are already awarded to the concerned,” he added.
