The order of the High Court also directs the Executive Engineer, Work Division-XIII, PWD, Mapusa-Goa to provide necessary cooperation to the Deputy Collector and other agencies in effectively carrying out the demolition. “Failing to comply with the said order, the departments concerned will have to face contempt proceedings says the order,” stated an order issued by Deputy Collector and SDM Bhagwant Karmali, who is also Incharge of the Demolition Squad, North Goa. The Dy Collector will also depute the Executive Magistrate/Mamlatdar to effectively carry out the demolition and also to take care of law and order problems. The Executive Engineer, Work Division-XIII, PWD, Mapusa has also been directed to assess the requirement of manpower and machinery in advance and provide required/sufficient demolition squad to demolish the illegal constructions. The departments have also been directed to disconnect electricity and water connec- tions to the houses earmarked for demolition. The deputy collector also made it clear that if the demolition is not completed within a day, the demolition shall be continued on next day, the authorities/agencies should co-ordinate among and complete the demolition. It may be noted that the Administrator of Comunidades, North Zone, could not carry out the demolition of 22 houses located in Survey 81/1 of Sangolda on February 27 as the Demolition Squad did not report at the site. The High Court of Bombay at Goa in an order dated February 6, 2024 had dismissed the petition of the owners of 22 houses seeking extensions, after noting that the applicants kept on applying for extensions and once the extensions were finally refused, they refuse to comply with their undertakings. Narayan Pissurlenkar 12 Indians working in bed, cake factories held in UK visa raids PTI LONDON Eleven men and one woman, all said to be Indian nationals, have been arrested by the UK’s immigration authorities in a series of raids on suspicion of being in breach of their visa conditions and working illegally at a bedding and cake factory. According to a statement from the UK Home Office, Immigration Enforcement officers descended on the bedding and mattress business in the West Midlands region of England following intelligence that illegal work was taking place on-site. They arrested seven men all Indian nationals for suspected illegal working, the Home Office said. Four more Indian men were arrested at a nearby cake factory. They were found to be in breach of their visa conditions. PANAJI A British national named Jason I was on Thursday arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Goa for illicit cannabis cultivation at his residence in Socorro. The arrest ensued following a tip-off regarding the cultivation of cannabis concealed among other plants to evade detection. Additional Director of NCB Goa Amit Ghawate informed media that the search yielded 33 newly cultivated cannabis plants, along with 10 grams of Ganja and illicit proceeds amounting to Rs 40,000. “The cannabis plants were grown in flower pots along with other plants to avoid detection, and kept on the terrace at his residence. All these are seized and will be sent for forensic analysis,” he said. Jason was previously arrested by the NCB Goa on November 28, 2022, during which the NCB sleuths found 107 Ecstasy tablets, 40 gms of MDMA powder, and 55 gms of Charas in his possession, which were subsequently seized for investigation purposes. The accused was on bail when the NCB arrested him for the second time in the present case.
