These labs aim to enable teachers to transform classroom concepts into experiential learning opportunities sions locally. “Initially, at least three batches of teachers will be sent to IIS for an 11-day training. The effectiveness of this will be assessed through feedback… All high school teachers will be trained for NEP,” Education Director Shailesh Zingde told The Goan. In the long run, government contemplates providing this training locally in Goa. “The labs for Maths and Science in the SCERT building will help hold training programs for the teachers in Goa itself,” Zingde added. The teachers, who come back trained from Bengaluru, could be roped in to share the NEP skills. Meanwhile, the State has already announced setting up of the Goa State School Standards Assessment and Accreditation Authority. This body will assess educational institutions to ensure the full implementation of NEP 2020. The State has allocated Rs 553.77cr for higher education wherein State-of-the-art talent development centre is also proposed in a bid to offer world-class training to the faculty to take higher education to the next level. As part of the extended NEP, the State recently conducted AI training sessions for teachers across 65 higher education institutions in Goa. Over 326 faculty members participated, with each discipline at every college being represented by two teachers. The training by experts covered diverse needs of teachers and students by empowering them with the ethical use of Generative AI for effective learning and research -- aligning with NEP’s vision of integrating technology to improve the quality of education. The Directorate of Higher Education also released discipline-specific specialized handbooks, equipped with prompts to help academics in learning and applying generative AI in respective fields. The comments assume significance in the wake of a high-level panel working on the social science curriculum recommending that “India” should be replaced with “Bharat” in school textbooks for all classes. The NCERT chief said both the words will be used in the books and the council has no aversion to either ‘Bharat’or ‘India’ “It is interchangeable....our position is what our Constitution says and we uphold that. We can use Bharat, we can use India, what is the problem? We are not in that debate. Wherever it suits we will use India, wherever it suits we will use Bharat.
